Republican gubernatorial candidate Josh Penry says a landslide victory in a new GOP Straw Poll shows the party is in line with his leadership and vision looking ahead to the 2010 elections.
Nearly 400 people participated in the poll during a state GOP meeting over the weekend.
Penry captured 79 percent of the vote while his chief opponent, former Congressman Scott McInnis only received 11 percent.
McInnis chose not to attend the meeting citing concerns over doing a poll at a fundraising event.
A recent scientific poll by the Colorado Policy Institute showed McInnis with a 40 to 13 lead over Penry among likely primary voters.
