7-year-old Rifle girl with H1N1 dies

Colorado Health Officials say an elementary school student with the Swine Flu died at Children's Hospital in Denver on September 22.

Authorities are looking to see if 7–year–old Valeria Gutierrez died as a direct result of the H1N1 Virus or if there were any underlying health conditions or factors that contributed to her death.

Gutierrez was in second grade at Wamsley Elementary School in Rifle.

School officials say they are doing everything they can prevent the spread of the virus. They say prior to Gutierrez's death, she spent the weekend in the Denver area which likely reduced the risk of exposure to other students.
