DENVER (AP) -- Authorities have arrested 77 people in the northern Denver area in a drug sweep aimed at a prison gang.
The Denver Post reports (http://tinyurl.com/kc5tpdo ) the raids on Thursday also netted 20 guns, $80,000 in cash and several pounds of methamphetamine and cocaine.
Authorities say the operation was focused on the Los Primeros Padres gang. They say the group started as a prison gang, and as members were released, they began importing meth and cocaine from Mexico and selling it across the Denver area.
Commerce City Police Chief Troy Smith says one of his officers was seriously injured in February when officers were fired on during the investigation. No details were released.
Raids were conducted by agents from the North Metro Task Force and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
