GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (KKCO) - Authorities in Garfield County say they're no longer looking for the primary suspect in the shooting death of one person and injury of another.
Officials say Fredy Cabrera, 39, turned himself in to Mesa County Sheriff's Office authorities at some point today. There has been little information released about his surrender.
Cabrera is wanted in connection to a shooting at the Riverside Cottages in Glenwood Springs. One person is dead, another is wounded after the shooting around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
KKCO 11 News crews spoke with residents who say Cabrera owned the El Horizonte Restaurant in Glenwood Springs and Carbondale. An employee at the Glenwood Springs location told us the owner was not in, and the owner's wife was in Denver, visiting her daughter who was shot. The employee also says law enforcement officers visited the restaurant today.
Garfield County authorities would not confirm the information about Cabrera owning a restaurant in the area or that his daughter was involved. However, an online biography for Cabrera states he moved to the country from El Salvador and started working as a dishwasher and worked his way up. He opened his first restaurant in 2004 and expanded in 2006 to Glenwood Springs.
The names of the victims, nor the condition of the person who was wounded, have been officially released by Garfield County authorities. KKCO 11 News will continue to follow this story and update you as information becomes available.
