CANON CITY, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say a Canon City man has died after being crushed by a dump truck.

Fremont County sheriff's officials say it appears 60-year-old Richard DeGroot was working beneath the one-ton dump truck and was trying to get it to start when the accident happened Tuesday afternoon. The truck apparently started and rolled over DeGroot's torso.

His wife went to check on him after hearing the truck running for about 15 minutes.

The Canon City Daily Record reports DeGroot was pronounced dead at the scene.
