Eleven years later, the September 11 attacks still having an impact nationwide.

On the anniversary, Colorado officials will gather to honor lives lost in the 2001 attacks, and after a summer of devastation in the face of wildfires and the July 20th shooting in Aurora, the ceremony in Denver will pay tribute to Colorado emergency crews as well.

According to the "Colorado Remembers" event site, Gov. John Hickenlooper and emergency response officials will be part of the ceremony, which includes a military flyover, Taps, and a 21-gun salute.

The event will also feature special remarks by John Elway of the Broncos, live musical performances and artifacts from the World Trade Center.

In another event, over 2,000 people are expected to join in what could be the largest memorial stair climb in the country in remembrance of 9/11, according our sister station KUSA in Denver.

The walk this morning will be held at Red Rocks Amphitheater near Denver. The Colorado 9/11 memorial stair climb is an untimed walk, meant to honor those who climbed the 110 stories of the World Trade Center's Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001.

Finally, Colorado artist Dawn Siebel is paying tribute to the victims of the deadly attacks.

Siebel was living in Colorado on 9/11 after living in Manhattan for 22 years.

The Colorado Springs Independent reports Siebel is giving back on this 11th anniversary through the gift of art, painting 343 individual portraits of the New York City firefighters who were lost.

The project-- called "Better Angels: The Firefighters of 9/11"-- is hanging at the Colorado Springs Fire Department and museum today.

The Post says the exhibit took over 3,000 hours and six years for Siebel to create.
