SAN ANTONIO, TX (KKCO) A memorial service was held Saturday for 24-year-old Ghawi in San Antonio, Texas, where she grew up. She was living in the Denver area pursuing her dream of becoming a sportscaster when she was struck down during the shooting rampage in Aurora. One-by-one several family and friends walked to the podium to remember her life. The most emotional moment came when Ghawi's brother talked about how her dreams would live on.

"I just wanted to leave you with two things, and one is if this coward could've done this with this much hate, imagine what we could do with this much love. The other thing is, if you're putting your dreams on hold, you stop that right now, you chase those dreams, you don't know how long you have here, you've read her blog, you know that life is ephemeral and you should not live with regrets. Take what my sister had to say, do follow her interactions and chase those dreams. Dad, I want you to know, mom, I want you to know, I know you're hurting and I haven't lost it yet, but I'm hurting with you and her story will continue to be told and she's going to live on at least through this scholarship fund. She will live on, her dreams were not fulfilled but through her others will," says Jacob Ghawi.

Jessica Ghawi had recently blogged about her narrow escape during a shooting at a Toronto shopping center, only to fall victim at the Aurora theater.
