ASPEN, Colo. Aspen is celebrating the opening of its new art museum with 24 hours of performances, tours and art, including a controversial exhibit featuring tortoises carrying iPads on their backs.
The museum opens to the public at 5 p.m. Saturday and will remain open until 5 p.m. Sunday.
Online petitioners have been calling on the museum to cancel the tortoise exhibition, equating it with animal abuse. But the museum has stood behind the "Moving Ghost Town" show, pointing out that the tortoises were rescued from a breeder and are being watched over by a veterinarian.
The tortoises will wander around the museum's roof deck as the iPads show footage of area ghost towns.
The museum had its grand opening last weekend but was only open to members.
