Deputy Montrose prosecutor accused of DUI

MONTROSE, Colo. A prosecutor in Montrose is on paid administrative leave after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol Sunday afternoon.

The District Attorney's office in Montrose is doing an internal investigation after Deputy District Attorney John Mehlig was arrested.

The office has requested a special prosecutor for Mehlig's court case because he is an employee.

Mehlig is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol as well as careless driving after hitting a power pole at the intersection of Sunnyside Rd and Phillips Ct in Montrose Sunday.

He was also arrested in 1990 and 1996 on DUI charges.
