Dog saves family in horrific crash

GRAND JUNCTION,Colo. It’s been more than a week since Frankie Hejny and her 19 month old daughter, Lillyanne were in a very serious car crash.

They were up on the Mesa driving when she lost control and her Jeep Cherokee went over a 63 foot cliff and rolled 4 times.

Hejny’s dog Nikita was also in the car at the time of the crash and jumped into the backseat after the car rolled the first time and took the impact of the crash for Hejny’s daughter Lillyanne.

"My daughter was sitting right here and she rolled out of the back, jumped up here and when were upside down, she ran out, she took a major blow for my daughter," said Hejny.

The dog then ran down the rest of the way to find help and brought them back to where the jeep way lying.

Both Frankie and her daughter escaped the crash with only minor cuts and bruises.

Nikita, has a few sever injuries, that may leave her with a permanent limp, but she is already running and playing around.

Hejny said that the Black Canyon Animal Sanctuary found out about what Nikita had done for the family and provided all the medical services and medication she needs to heal, free of charge.
