Evacuations ordered for Garfield County residents in path of wildfire

Rapid growth of the Red Canyon Fire prompts evacuations of residents, animals.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (KKCO) - Residents east of the Red Canyon Fire and north to I-70 have been ordered to evacuate as the fire grows rapidly Tuesday afternoon.

Garfield County Sheriff's Office authorities say the fire rant to the north and east, consuming another 35 to 40 acres, which prompted the evacuation.

Evacuees are being moved to Carbondale High School. animals are supposed to go to the Garfield County Fairgrounds.

Officials say another firefighting team has been ordered and will arrive this evening.
