The families of the Aurora theater shooting victims will appear together for the first time.

They will hold a press conference Tuesday, August 28 at 11 a.m. at the Summit Convention and Conference Center in Aurora.

According to their press release, the families need to address events that have occurred behind the scenes, though the release does not specify what those events are.

They plan to read a statement and take questions from the media.

Twelve people were killed and 58 injured or wounded when a gunman opened fire on July 20 during a midnight showing of the latest Batman movie in the Denver suburb of Aurora.

Charges against suspect James Eagan Holmes include murder and attempted murder. He's being held without bail and hasn't entered a plea.

His defense lawyers have said he is mentally ill.
