DENVER (AP) -- Organizers say more than 44,000 people celebrated the opening day of the National Western Stock Show in Denver, just shy of the attendance record set in 2008.
Saturday's opening day drew 44,290 fans, just short of beating the record attendance of 44,616.
Paul Andrews, president and CEO of the show, says "we couldn't have asked for better weather and the number of Stock Show fans that came out to help celebrate another great opening day."
The show will continue through Jan. 26 and will include, among other events, the Mexican Rodeo Extravaganza, PBR Bull Riding and Wild West shows.
