GJPD stepping up July 4th enforcement

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) They remind you setting off fireworks is a class 3 misdemeanor, punishable by a $750 fine. We're told typically when there's a ban in place you can still light off things like cones, fountains, and sparklers. However, this year all fireworks are illegal. Officials say if you do see someone lighting off fireworks, call police immediately.

"If you do decide that you're going to call in and let us know, the best thing that you can do is actually be a witness for us, by that I mean you provide your name, your contact information, the exact address of where this is happening, and then when our officers get there; you provide the information to them," says Kate Porras, Public Information Officer with the Grand Junction Police Department.

Grand Junction will not burn unless we have no irrigation. Water your yard the light up would be safe. But common sense is thrown out the door in Mindless Government Police states. How is it safer at Lincoln Park vs a green yard.?

The police are just trying to protect our lives and the beauty of our lovely Valley. Save the works for New Year's when things won't perish due to one little spark.

I have some good news for you Moron, if you are my neighbor the cops will not be called. I will simply come over and stomp your sparkler in the ground. I would be willing to face a charge in front of a Judge. So bunky you see its not even a good idea for you to shoot your mouth off. Love and kisses,Elrod.

I wish I had more neighbors like you! I agree, I may call the cops, but not before I go over there and take care of it myself, I sure dont want my neighborhood burning down

If you witness people setting off fireworks, video tape them doing so. I believe that Law enforcement will be quite busy on the fourth but on the fifth with tape in hand its much easier to press charges.
