GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Canyon Summits LLC. will be partnering with CDOT and the Forest Service to provide better cell coverage and emergency services throughout Glenwood Canyon.

Construction of the new telecommunications infrastructure already began on Monday, and is set to be complete by the end of the year.

It will be built along I-70 and is designed to handle multiple wireless carriers.

Part of the plan also includes four new communication shelter buildings to be constructed at each of the four rest areas along the Glenwood Canyon corridor.

Those overseeing the project say they hope to strike a good balance between improved wireless coverage and preserving the canyon's beauty, which is why the theme of the new construction will be modeled after the existing shelters in the area.
