Colorado Congressman Scott Tipton will participate in a hearing to talk about what critics are calling the unnecessary closures of national parks.
Lawmakers will be asking park service officials about why they put up metal barricades to block people from entering open air parks, monuments and memorials that are usually open 24 hours a day / 365 days a year.
They are sites that were not closed by the Clinton administration during the last government shutdown in the 90s.
The closures have been especially painful for small businesses that rely on tourism dollars.
