Judge allows limited cameras for Holmes hearing

DENVER (AP) -- A judge says he'll allow limited cameras in the courtroom when Colorado theater shooting suspect James Holmes enters his plea in March.

Judge William Sylvester said Monday he will allow one video camera and one still camera to provide pool coverage for the news media at Holmes' arraignment hearing March 12. No audio will be allowed.

Holmes' attorneys had objected to any cameras. They argued expanded media coverage would violate Holmes' rights to due process, a fair trial and an impartial jury and to be presumed innocent.

Holmes is charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder in the July 20 shootings in Aurora that killed 12 people and injured 70.

Arraignments and initial appearances are the only pretrial hearings in which cameras are allowed in courtrooms under Colorado law.
