BOULDER, Colo. (AP) A judge says he'll decide this week whether to require Boulder County's district attorney to explain why an indictment that was secretly voted on by the JonBenet Ramsey grand jury in 1999 but never prosecuted should remain sealed.
Daily Camera reporter Charlie Brennan and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press are suing DA Stan Garnett in an effort to compel him to release the indictment. The Daily Camera reports (http://bit.ly/1cIj7Xr) attorneys for Brennan and the press committee argue the indictment should be made public because it's a criminal justice record that reflects an official action.
Six-year-old JonBenet was found dead Dec. 26, 1996, in the basement of her family's home hours after she was reported missing. Her killer hasn't been identified.
The newspaper isn't participating in the lawsuit.
