GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) Friends, family and community members joined the Patriot Guard Riders to welcome home local resident Justin Meyers. Meyers returned home Saturday morning after serving a three month tour of duty with the Air Force in Afghanistan. Family and community members waited for his arrival with signs and American flags to show their appreciation for his service.
The Patriot Guard Riders and Vietnam Veterans are dedicated to formally welcoming members of the military home from duty. "We try to make every homecoming we know is coming in that folks let us know, and in this case the mother let us know through a Blue Star Mother, and so we set this up and hopefully we will have 8 or 10 people out here with a flag line and everything out here when he comes in," says Art Edwards with the Patriot Guard Riders.
Meyers was surprised by the warm welcome of strange and familiar faces as he walked through the glass doors. Now that he's home, he hopes to go rafting and spend as much time with his family as possible. That's before heading out in December to serve another 3 to 6 month tour of duty.
