EL JEBEL, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say a man found the severed head of a dog at a park in a small town in Colorado and are looking into what led to the decapitation.
The Aspen Daily News reports that the head was found in El Jebel, south of Glenwood Springs and about 175 miles west of Denver.
Authorities say the rest of the animal's body hasn't been found.
The remains have been turned over to Eagle County Animal Services, which is handling the investigation. Eagle County officials say the agency's veterinarian was expected to inspect the dog Tuesday, and it's possible another animal was responsible.
The man says he found the carcass lying on the grass east of the tennis courts at Crown Mountain Park. He was not identified.
