GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO ) Saturday marked the first annual "bigger and better" mud run. The event was organized by CMU cross country coach Gig Leadbetter. He saw this as an opportunity to get the athletes involved in raising money for those who were displaced by the fires on the front range. Students were happy to get down and dirty for a good cause, slipping and sliding their way to the finish line to benefit two important groups.

"It's going towards the people who have been effected by the wildfires and then its also going to athletics for Colorado Mesa," says CMU student Courtney Berg.

More than 200 participants showed up for the event that took place on 27 1/4 road. The event was arranged in several running heats, and those who finished stuck around for refreshments and live music. The fire department made an appearance as well to hose off and cool down the muddy mavericks.
