President Obama is on the campaign trail this week as Republicans gather in Tampa, Fla.

Tuesday, the president addressed about 13,000 people at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, just as students returning to class for the fall semester.

During his speech, Obama said the Romney campaign described the younger voters as being a lost generation, and he urged them not to give up hope.

The president also criticized Mitt Romney’s health care plan, saying it would be called "Romney doesn't care" when compared to his own "Obamacare" plan.

"This is what is called the ‘Romney doesn't care’ plan. Kick seven million young people off their parents plan. Raise prescription drug costs for seniors. Tell folks with pre-existing conditions you're out of luck again. I do care. And I think all of us care, because at some point in our lives might need," said Obama.

The Colorado Romney campaign came to the presidential candidate's defense.

In a statement, Ryan Williams, Romney's campaign spokesman, called Obama's campaign "more frustrated and flailing than usual:"

"The President’s desperate attacks tonight stand in stark contrast to the Romney-Ryan plan that will get our country back on track and create 12 million new jobs and more take-home pay for middle-class Americans,” said Williams.

Polls suggest the president is leading Romney with college-aged voters in this year’s race.

Air Force One will depart from the Fort Collins-Loveland Airport at 9:40 Wednesday morning. Obama will be back in Colorado to visit Boulder on Sunday.
