DURANGO, Colo. (AP) Authorities say a man who skied out of bounds at Durango Mountain Resort has been found safe after he spent the night in remote wilderness during a major snowstorm.

Dan Bender, a spokesman for the La Plata County Sheriff's Office, tells The Durango Herald that 42-year-old Alex Magennis of Cincinnati texted his wife Friday to tell her he had unintentionally left the resort and planned to ski east to a gas station. Magennis, a former Durango resident, had used that route with another skier about 10 years ago in a similar scenario.

But this time, Bender says, Magennis apparently became confused and got lost.

Search crews looked for the man throughout the night in a heavy snowstorm and found him cold and exhausted at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
