MOUNT CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. (AP) A snowmobiler is dead and another was partially buried in a large avalanche near Mount Crested Butte.

Gunnison County coroner Frank Vader says the accident happened Monday close to Kebler Pass.

Vader said Tuesday the victim is not being identified pending notification of relatives. The other snowmobiler was not seriously injured.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center says the avalanche was about 500 feet wide. The avalanche center says Monday's death is the ninth nationally this season.

On Sunday, a Colorado Springs woman died after being caught in an avalanche in Utah while she was snowshoeing in American Fork Canyon. She was identified as 21-year-old Ashleigh Cox.

Officials say that avalanche fell 50 feet and carried the 21-year-old Cox into a creek, burying her in the water.
