Law enforcement and emergency officials are investigating after a state trooper was reportedly shot.
According to Garfield County Emergency management, at approximately 9:10 AM on Thursday, during a routine traffic stop in East Garfield County near mile marker 129 on Interstate 70 a State Trooper was shot and injured.
The Trooper has been transported to the Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs.
A suspect on the scene is deceased.
West Bound I-70 is closed at mile marker 130 and will remain closed indefinitely. The closure could be for up to 6 hours, meaning the road could remain closed until 4 PM.
According to a news advisory from CDOT, "The Colorado Department of Transportation has closed I-70 westbound at mile maker 133 at Dotsero at the request of the Colorado State Patrol. An investigation is underway and it is estimated that this closure could remain for UP TO six hours (opening by 4 p.m.). This is only an estimate and motorists are urged to check cdot’s site before making travel plans as the interstate could open sooner."
I-70 East Bound has been re-opened. Officers from several Agencies as well as an Investigator from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office are on scene.
According to police scanner traffic, St. Mary's Careflight helicopter was dispatched to Glenwood Canyon.
