GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Colorado State Patrol (CSP), and local law enforcement agencies want to remind everyone to plan ahead with a sober driver this holiday season. The state will have an increased amount of patrols through New Year’s Day.

Reports have shown there were six fatalities over the past Thanksgiving holiday weekend, four of which resulted from alcohol or drug use. Additionally, law enforcement agencies made more than 535 DUI arrests recently. Last year, there were 45 fatalities in Colorado and 15 of those were alcohol-related. There were also more than 1,680 Coloradoans arrested for a DUI from Thanksgiving to New Year’s.

MillerCoors Brewing Company, the Regional Transportation District (RTD), Colorado State Patrol, and other law enforcement agencies are all working with CDOT to help distribute holiday impaired driving prevention messages. MillerCoors will be offering $10 cab vouchers in Fort Collins and Greeley. RTD is offering bus and light rail services on New Year’s Eve from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
