COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) Four current and former state prison inmates have filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging Colorado officials have illegally kept them incarcerated longer than they should have.

The lawsuit alleges the Colorado Department of Corrections didn't give the inmates all the credit they had earned for good behavior, training, and other considerations.

The suit also says the department believes it has the power to determine whether such credits should be applied toward inmates' release dates.

Department officials declined to comment.

The lawsuit says potentially thousands of inmates have been held longer than they should have and says the case will likely become a class-action lawsuit.

Three of the plaintiffs are still prisoners. The fourth was released.
