The Parks and Wildlife Center is getting kids outside

GRAND JUNCTION, Co. Every summer many parents struggle to find fun things for their kids to do, and most parents want kids to get outdoors and off the couch.

To help with that the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Center is putting on multiple events every week throughout the rest of June and all of July.

Many of the activities are outside, and involve teaching kids about wildlife, camping, fire safety, and learning about other outdoor activities in a fun interactive way.

Mike Clark teaches most of the classes offered through the Wildlife Center and said his favorite thing to do is take the kids on nature walks.

"Kind of have fun, there is usually an activity, sometimes we go frog hunting, night walk is one of my favorites because we get to walk around the lake in the dark and listen to wildlife and try to find some," said Clark.

The Center is also putting on information classes about bugs, insects, and other animals that live on the Western Slope at the different Mesa County Library branches.

It's about enjoying what we have in Colorado and the Colorado River is a big part of that has shaped western slope specifically and getting to understand a little bit more about it really helps," said Clark.

Every weekend there are junior ranger classes where kids can learn about being a ranger, how to build a campfire, first aid safety, and several other events all outside.
