LOGAN, Utah- A Utah father charged with child abuse after police found his 6-year-old son chained to a bed while the man was at work made his first court appearance by video Thursday in Logan.
The Herald Journal of Logan reports that the judge set bail at $10,000 for the 28-year-old man. The Associated Press is not naming the man to avoid identifying the child.
The judge also assigned him a public defender. He is due back in court Monday.
Investigators believe the man chained the boy to the bed post for 10 straight days when he left for work, unchaining him when he got home. New court records show the man did general labor for a company that makes flood containment systems.
The boy is with child welfare services.
