Woman arrested after stabbing boyfriend multiple times

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) -- An arrest affidavit for the woman who police say stabbed her boyfriend multiple times says the couple was arguing, then she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the arm and back.

Barbara Blanton, 37, was arrested on second degree assault with a deadly weapon charges and domestic violence. The affidavit says she and her boyfriend, Richard Murphy have been dating for about two years, and Blanton is five months pregnant with his child.

According to police, the couple came home to their apartment on Bookcliff Avenue Tuesday evening and started fighting. Murphy told police he tried to get away from Blanton by going to another room but she followed him, eventually stabbing him with a kitchen knife in the arm and back.

During and interview with police, Blanton denied stabbing her boyfriend. She said Murphy had left the house for a 'drug fix' and when he got back a short time later, he had already been stabbed. Blanton said she would never hurt Murphy.

Blanton is being held at the Mesa County Jail.

Murphy was treated and released from the hospital Tuesday night.

Update (9:46 p.m.) -- Police Have Arrested 37 year old Barbara Blanton for assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim, who was transported to the hospital, has since been released and has returned home.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) -- Grand Junction Police have responded to a stabbing at 1158 Bookcliff Ave. One person was taken to the hospital with multiple stab wounds, according to spokesperson Kate Porras.

There haven't been any arrests, but Porras says they have detained one person and they're not looking for any suspects.
