DACONO, Colo. (AP) -- A measure to repeal a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries in Dacono has been cleared to appear on the ballot in 2013.

City Clerk Valerie Taylor said Monday that supporters had collected twice the number of valid signatures needed to get on the ballot. The Times-Call reports a special election could be scheduled between Feb. 11 and May 13.

In June, the City Council had voted to ban marijuana dispensaries, requiring the three pot shops in town to leave by Dec. 31. That deadline stands unless an agreement can be reached or legal action suspends the ban.

Colorado voters in November passed Amendment 64, allowing for marijuana use under state law without a doctor's recommendation. Marijuana is still illegal under federal law.
