GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. A woman was found dead in a ravine south of Rifle on Wednesday.

At around 4:15 p.m. authorities were dispatched to a road near the Grass Mesa subdivision south of Rifle, according to Garfield County Sheriff's Office spokesman Walt Stowe.

Stowe says the woman had been on foot when she apparently fell down a 75-foot icy embankment and into the ravine.

It is unclear at this time whether the trauma from the fall or the exposure to the elements caused her death.

The Garfield County Sheriff's Office had been investigating a missing person at the time, but they are still awaiting the coroner's report identifying the victim to confirm their missing person was this woman.
