Bulldogs Fall In Battle Of One and Two

GRAND JUNCTION - Glenwood Springs quarterback Dakota Stonehouse led a game winning drive, highlighted with a resilient 32 yard run, as the Demons defeated the Palisade Bulldogs 29-22 on Saturday at Stocker Stadium.

Entering the game, Glenwood was ranked first and Palisade second by Coloradopreps.com. Rocky Mountain Preps had the Bulldogs as the number one team in class 3A, and the Demons number two.

Stonehouse gave the Demons an early lead with an 11 yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The lead was 12-0 after the following possession when he hit Kevin Screen for a 55 yard touchdown pass.

The Bulldogs responded before the break. Aaron Wagler and Jake Appling each scored touchdowns and the game headed to the half tied at 15.

The Demons retook the lead late in the third when Michael Hudson broke a 27 yard touchdown run, but again the Bulldogs would answer.

Appling led a long fourth quarter drive that was capped with a Travis Fehlman one yard touchdown run. The Bulldogs converted the point after, something the Demons had failed to do twice, and took their first lead 22-21.

But Stonehouse proved why he's highly touted as one of the best quarterbacks in the state. He led the Demons back into Bulldog territory and put them in a position to take the lead back with a 32 yard run to the Palisade three yard line. Hudson sealed the deal with the game winning touchdown run.
