PALISADE, Colo - Despite vastly improved play as of late, their early season struggles caused the Palisade boys and girls basketball teams to have their backs against the wall late in the season. Both teams responded by winning at home over Battle Mountain on Tuesday.

The boys were out to a 15 point lead after the first quarter, but things got much closer down the stetch.

The Huskies clawed their way back into the game in the second half. Battle Mtn. actually took the lead for the first time late in the fourth quarter.

But Riley Josie provided late-game heroics for the Bulldogs, scoring a layup with under three second left to lift Palisade to a 44-43 win.

Josie led the Bulldogs with 16 points. Jeremy Hayden scored 12 before fouling out and Jake Edmiston added six.

The girls game didn't have as much drama, but had the same result. The Palisade girls felt they got off to a slow start in the game but were in charge from start to finish with a 62-50 victory.

A three-point play on a layup and foul by Holly Odneal in the fourth quarter ended a 10-3 run by the Huskies, making the score 56-48. From there the Bulldogs contained the Huskies for a 12 point win.

Sarah Hays led the team with 17 points. Joining the double-digit club were Holly Odneal with 13 points and Nicole Routhier with 12.
