HS WRESTLING: Paonia takes team title at Palisade Invitational

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- If you consider yourself a wrestling fan, then you must have been at the Palisade Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Not only did the event showcase the talents of 4 separate top-4 wrestlers in the state, but it also played host to one top ranked teams in the state.

The Paonia Eagles took the team title for the event with 238.5 total points. Palisade High School was the next closest team with 181.5 points, followed by Grand Valley High School (123) and Valor Christian (102).

A sure-fire match-of-the-day contender was the first round bout in the 126 lbs. weight class between Justin Ray of Palisade and Richardo Matta of Grand Valley. Ray, who is ranked 3rd in the state, pinned Matta in 34 seconds.
