Kittens heartlessly dumped in the desert up for adoption

Two of four kittens dumped outside Whitewater Sunday afternoon.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - It’s unfortunate that life forces us to take beloved family pets to the shelter. But it’s far worse when unwanted animals are dumped and left to fend for themselves.

I was in the right place at the right time this weekend and witnessed four kittens being dumped near Whitewater.

We were out riding motorcycles on Sunday and we just happened to stop near the Whitewater boat launch. As we pulled up I saw a bunch of little pairs of legs run away from his truck.

Those little pairs of legs belonged to a troop of six to eight-week-old kittens who instantly found a place in my heart.

I named them while I sat there waiting for friends to bring supplies and a box to take them home in. Once you name them, it’s hard to give them up…

But, one is called Sarah. She looks like a little black and white cow. She’s very playful and is a huge fan of a little orange mouse toy.

Another is named Bagheera, after the black panther in The Jungle Book. He’s the most regal of the kittens and has bushy white ear hair and whiskers.

Thumbleina was the first kitten to greet us. She’s utterly sweet, and a little bit of a dingbat.

Tommy is the lap cat. He’ll play, but would prefer to sit around and keep your legs warm.

Now if you’re wondering, the Whitewater Boat Launch is three-quarters of a mile from the Mesa County Animal Services building.

Officials with Animal Services say dumping animals without making arrangements for their care is illegal and punishable with jail time and fines. I didn’t know or I would have reported the man who dumped them.

This incident is a perfect example of why it's so important to spay and neuter your pets. We're supposed to be the superior beings and then we go and do something like this. So, if you need a kitten I know where you can find four. They're very sweet and I’ve already been told I'm not allowed to keep them all.

If you have room in your heart and your home for a kitten, I promise they’ll give back more than they ever receive. Call us today at 970/243.1111 or email me at the address above!

Thanks to the kind person who rescued these kittens . I worked for the US Forest Svc and often found abandoned puppies or kittens out in the forest . In my way of thinking , anyone who would " dump " helpless animals rather than find homes for them deserves some jail time for cruelty to animals . I wonder how such a person treats his/her children ? Thanks so much to the kind person who helped to save these sweet kittens . You will get your just rewards and you will be blessed for you selfless act !

I am so glad these poor little babies were found before they died of thirst, starvation or from the elements or predators. I hope they find a loving, nurturing and safe home.I hope they find the cruel and heartless individual(s) that did this. It really makes a person think just what kind of parent these individuals are. They need to be banned from ever having animals if ever caught. It is high time that people get their animals fixed. It should be mandatory unless you are a responsible licensed animal breeder,There are too many people out there lacking common sense to properly care for an animal.

Whoever did this should be shot. I'm so glad someone with a heart was there to save them.
