SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _A mudslide crashed into a Taylorsville townhouse complex Tuesday, forcing the evacuation of about 80 residences.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports on its web site that the wall of water and mud hit the buildings and a playground full of children at about 3 p.m. Fourteen buildings in the complex were effected.

Unified Fire Authority spokesman Jay Fearnley says the slide was about 40 feet wide, 20 feet long and seven feet deep in some areas. He says the extent of the damage was still being assessed.

The slide followed heavy rainfall in the area. The Red Cross is available to assist anyone affected.
