Denver (AP) A Denver woman who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the starvation death of 7-year-old Chandler Grafner has been sentenced to 48 years in prison.

Sarah Berry and her husband were supposed to be caring for Chandler when he died in May 2007. Authorities say Chandler was denied food and water and spent hours locked in a closet where he had to urinate and defecate.

The 23-year-old Berry was sentenced Monday. She was originally charged with first-degree murder but accepted a plea deal.

Her husband, 27-year-old Jon Phillips, was convicted of first-degree murder in August and sentenced to life without parole.

Phillips agreed to take custody of chandler when he was removed the care of his mother, Phillips' former girlfriend. Phillips and Chandler were not related.
