Alamosa, Colo. (AP) Alamosa County authorities say a hiker discovered human remains in shallow grave in the vicinity of Great Sand Dunes National Park.

Sheriff Dave Stong said Monday the remains were found on private property on Sept. 10. Stong says it's unclear whether the body was a homicide or suicide victim or had been buried by family.

The El Paso County Coroner and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are assisting in the inquiry.

Great Sand Dunes Park is about 25 miles northeast of Alamosa and 140 miles south of Denver.
