Sen. Josh Penry's bill would require that local school districts get 50 percent of the federal funds currently paid to counties in lieu of property taxes on federal land. The current minimum level is 5 percent.
HB 1250 passed the Senate Education Committee with bipartisan support this morning.
Penry says Mesa County would have an additional $294,187 allocated between De Beque, Mesa County Valley, and Plateau Valley school districts. Garfield County would have an additional $242,632 allocated between Garfield 16, Garfield RE-2, and Roaring Fork RE-1 school districts.
