Aspen, Colo. (AP) - Aspen officials are devising a plan to repair grave markers from the city's 119-year-old cemetery and clear weeds from the location.

The Aspen City Council has budgeted about $35,800 for the work and the Colorado Historical Society has matched that amount. The city has hired a man who specializes in preserving historic cemeteries to craft a plan outlining the work that needs to be done.

Besides weeds, old Aspen trees are also in danger of falling on the grave makers.

The Aspen Grove Cemetery is the city's second oldest. As many as 1,000 Aspen residents are buried there, including some of the city's early mayors.
