Forest Service to clear trees killed by beetles
The U.S. Forest Service has approved a plan to clear some 4,000 acres in Summit County of trees killed by pine beetles.

SILVERTHORNE, Colo. (AP) – The U.S. Forest Service has approved a plan to clear some 4,000 acres in Summit County of trees killed by pine beetles.
The project in the White River National Forest aims to reduce fire risk by clearing dead and dying trees. Peech Keller of the Dillon Ranger District says clearing the trees could help spark healthy new growth.
Foresters say that 90 percent of the mature lodgepole pines in Summit County could be dead within three years because of pine beetles.
Logging could begin next summer.
