They have paved the way for mothers today, creating bonds that cannot easily be broken. We remember these infamous moms, and honor them as history makers in the world of motherhood.

Mother Theresa - As one of the most infamous mothers throughout history, Mother Theresa never actually gave birth to her own children. However, her humanitarian work and care of the poor, sick and homeless, have made her one of the most influential mothers and humanitarians to ever grace the earth. For her determination and will power, Jackie O will be remembered as an icon for all mothers; one of the most beloved and popular figures of the 20th century. Julia Ward Howe - Poet and Activist Julia Ward Howe planted the first seeds to making Mother’s Day a national holiday in the United States. She was the first to propose a “Mother's Day”, after introducing her “Mother's Day Proclamation” in 1870. Based on her experiences as a wife and mother throughout her tyrannical marriage and the violence she witnessed while living through the Civil War, the proclamation declared that women should have more social responsibility beyond the domestic duties of the household.
