Ways to Celebrate Easter

Spring is here! Birds are chirping; flowers are beginning to bloom. The changing from the cold and gray winter to the warm and colorful spring is a wonderful introduction to one of the most anticipated holidays of the year ... Easter!

The idea of Easter means several different things to different people. Kids see Easter as another holiday filed with candy and treats. Older children see Easter as the opening to a week off from school. Some adults see Easter as a celebration of Christ's resurrection. Others see Easter as the 'birth' of beautiful weather.

Whichever view of Easter you have, here are some great suggestions to make your Easter celebration an 'eggstra' special event!

Hosting a Party? It's All in the Invitations!

Send out invitations at least two weeks before your Easter party. In the invitation be sure to let everyone know the agenda of the party.

Things to include in the invitation:
  • List of activities
  • Let them know the main menu
  • What they need to wear
  • Time the party will begin and end
  • What they need to bring (Eggs for decorating and dyeing, Easter basket, etc.)

By making your invitation very detailed, there won't be any questions as to what to expect at your Easter celebration!

Decorating for an Easter party will be a piece of cake! There are numerous items associated with Easter that are easy to create.
  • Easter Bunnies - Make an Easter Bunny string banner. Have your kids and some of the other kids coming to the party color some bunnies in advance. Punch a hole in their ears and put a long string through them all. Run the string from one side of the room to the other. Do this as many times as you wish.
  • Easter Eggs - Let the kids color some paper eggs before the party. Place these all over the room.
  • Festive Flowers - Find some fresh flowers at your local garden store to brighten up your room! Spring flowers are available in a variety of colors, so make sure to select a few different arrangements to display some pizzazz!

  • Pin the Tail on the Rabbit - Played exactly like pin the tail on the donkey. Blindfold everyone as they try to pin the tail on the rabbit, or bunny.
  • Egg Dyeing - Dyeing easter eggs is a timeless tradition that everyone looks forward to. The first step is to prepare the hard boiled eggs. Then set up the the "dyeing table" with bowls of water, food coloring, and paint supplies. Have everyone dye their egg with their own special design!
  • Face Painting - Set up a station where everyone (adults included) can have eggs or bunnies painted on their face.
  • Easter Egg Hunt - What is an Easter party without an Easter egg hunt? Before the guests arrive, go ahead and hide all the eggs. Use the plastic eggs that open up for candy so the person finding the egg gets a treat. Hide a golden egg in a very difficult hiding place, and give a special prize to the person that finds it.
  • Egg Relay Race - Group up in teams of three or four for a good ole' fashion relay race. Hand each participant a spoon and give each team an egg (not hard-boiled). Prepare an obstacle course of chairs or cones that each participant must weave in and out of. While running through the obstacles the person must hold the egg in their spoon. If the egg is dropped, that person must start their turn over. If the egg drops and breaks, then the whole team must start over. Give the winning team a special prize.

Don't forget to let the Easter Bunny make an appearance at your party. Have someone dress up in a bunny costume and greet all the kids. The kids will love the appearance of the furry friend!

By following these suggestions, your Easter celebration is sure to be a success! Who knows? Maybe these suggestions have sparked ideas in you and you are off to create an unforgettable time. Either way, Happy Easter!
