GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The Mavs played their first game as the number 1 overall team in the NCAA's South Central Division, and they showed why they deserve the ranking tonight.

Mesa beat the Regis Rangers 15-5, but it wasn't one-sided the whole game. The Rangers actually were leading the Mavs 5-4 in the 6th, but the Mavs erupted for 7 runs in the inning and put he game to bed.

Kevin Mitchell led the charge for Mesa with 2 homeruns, the first time he's ever hit more than one homer in a game in his entire career. The Mavs had 5 homers as a team, with Erik Kozel, Tamatoa Demello, and Nate Robertson all chipping in bombs as well.
