GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The Colorado Mesa football team pushed their way into a fourth straight victory over the weekend - once again proving this team has found their rhythm - especially on defense.

Since the start they've been outstanding - averaging 14 points allowed per game. They continue to lead the nation in red zone defense and passes intercepted. This week they've jumped into the top 10 in a couple more categories.

The Mavs now rank third in turnovers gained and seventh in scoring defense. As their defense continues to improve, it's no wonder their athletes are making the conference players of the week honors.

Junior linebacker Andrew Hurley took the honors this time around. Over the weekend he recovered a Fort Lewis fumble, then returned it 84 yards for a Maverick touchdown. Hurley finished with 11 tackles and a team high 3 sacks.

In all, the defense only allowed 169 total yards to the Skyhawks offense during the Mavs 42-0 shutout victory.
