GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Defensive coordinator Todd Auer has resigned in order to accept an assistant coaching job at Southern Illinois University, a DI school that plays in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Coach Auer spent two years at CMU and was essential to the Maverick's success. Last season's defensive unit was third in all of DII in forcing turnovers- they had 40 in just 11 games, and top 20 in scoring defense- allowing just under 20 points per game.

He'll be coaching the linebackers at Southern Illinois, where he'll be meeting back up with Bill O'Boyle, who was CMU's offensive coordinator for the 2012 season.
