GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The CMU Mavericks football team got on the road Thursday afternoon to start their drive to Nebraska for their first conference game against the number 21 Chadron State Eagles.
Both teams will enter the match-up 1-1 after dropping their last games. For the Mavs it's been quite some time since they've been able to pull out the win against the top team in the conference. In fact it's been a solid ten years.
Overall CMU holds a 5-17 record in their series against the Eagles, a series that dates all the way back to 1991.
This season Chadron has all their skill guys back, meaning they're still a high-powered offense that CMU needs to stop.
"It'd be great to get the win for our kids," said defensive coordinator Todd Auer. "We haven't beat them in ten years, so we're due. We're going to go in there not thinking we're going to win, we're going to go in there knowing we're going to win. We have a lot of confidence. It's a game that we can win if we play well, and that's what we expect to do."
Last season Mesa fell 41-30. Their game takes place this Saturday at 12:00 PM.
