GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The Colorado Mesa Mavericks entered the RMAC tournament hosting the UC Colorado Springs Mountain Lions.
The Mavs, already with a 10-5-3 record this season, looked to add a win to their resume in order to advance to the semifinals for the first time in program history.
Against the Mountain Lions, it hasn't been easy to pull out a win this season. In fact, it hasn't been done. Through two games (one on the road and one at home) in the regular season, the teams ended in a tie. For the RMAC tournament, it would have to end differently.
The Mavs were first on the board early in the first half courtesy of Marco Escobar, but the Mountain Lions would soon follow with Sebastian Hertzberg taking his rebound and shooting it straight into the back of the net.
It'd be a tie game through double overtime. The night would be decided when Micah Conrads made a huge save during the shootout. That allowed Sean Foster to come in and seal their fate with a goal and the 2-1 victory.
CMU will face School of Mines this Friday at 11:00 AM in Denver.
