GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The Lady Mavs saw this weekend as an opportunity to make up some ground in the RMAC standings.
Hosts of a pod series, they had four games against conference opponents and two of those games were against the team directly ahead of them in the RMAC.
After winning both games Saturday they found themselves in a dogfight Sunday morning against the CSU Pueblo Thunderwolves. Down 1 in the bottom of the 6th, Camille Brimhall drove home the tying run to push the game into extra innings.
It took 11 innings but a great slide by Taylor Gross won the game for the Mavs, the second straight in walk-off fashion against the Thunderwolves.
The second game was a different story, though, and it looked like the ladies used up all their energy in game one.
Colorado Christian knocked off the Mavs 6-3. They finished the pod series with 3 wins, pulling them to within 1 game of 2nd place CSU Pueblo.
